Mr. John’s Steakhouse
Location & Contact:
Mr. John's is one of less than a handful of steakhouses whose steaks are all USDA Prime, including the filets mignon. (Which the national chains tend to serve at lesser grades.) They have all the classic cuts, very well trimmed out, sold at prices a touch below those of the big names. The sizzling butter touch--a New Orleans steak trademark--is exciting and delicious. While the Italian dishes are more or less routine, they go surprisingly well with the steaks, especially at a table with entree-splitting in progress.
Desi, Rodney, and Paul wanted to continue Mr. John's passion for serving the highest quality steaks available. The new owners bring a combined restaurant experience of over 50 years.
Desi Vega, the managing partner, grew up in the restaurant business and was "groomed" by Miss Ella Brennan at Commander's Palace, Miss Ruth Fertel of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, and most recently by Emeril Lagasse. His attention to detail and commitment to excellence makes for a truly memorable dining experience.
Rodney Salvaggio, Mr. John's son -in-law, owned and operated the very popular, "Smilie"s, in Jefferson Parish for 25 years. Paul Varisco has a love for food and been in the restaurant supply business for the last 12 years. It was he who brought the partners together to continue Mr. John's name. Desi knows that all steak houses are compared to Ruth's Chris and is determined to do what it takes to make Mr. John's, the new "local" steak house.
